Prepare your GST return with PayWren
Use the GST Return tab in Reports to get your IRD box numbers ready before filing in myIR.
Who needs to file GST?
You must register for GST once your taxable supplies exceed $60,000 in a 12-month period. Once registered, you file every 1, 2, or 6 months depending on your filing frequency (set when you registered).
Open the GST Return tab
Go to Reports โ GST Return. Set the period to match your GST filing period (e.g. April 1 โ May 31 for a two-monthly April filer).
Invoice basis vs payments basis
In the GST Basis selector, choose how IRD has you set up:
Invoice basis โ GST is owed when you issue the invoice, regardless of when you're paid. Most businesses use this.
Payments basis โ GST is only owed when payment is actually received. Allowed if your turnover is under $2 million.
Read your box numbers
PayWren shows the four boxes you'll enter in myIR:
Box 5 โ Total sales and income (incl. GST) Box 6 โ GST charged on your sales Box 11 โ GST credit on your purchases (from expenses) Box 13 โ Net GST payable (Box 6 minus Box 11)
File in myIR
Log into myIR at ird.govt.nz, go to GST โ File return, and enter the numbers from PayWren into the corresponding boxes. Always cross-check the figures against your own bank records before filing.
