Common line items
- ·Callout / diagnosis fee
- ·Hourly labour rate
- ·Parts and fittings
- ·Disposal / waste removal
- ·After-hours emergency surcharge
- ·Travel charge
Tips for plumbers
- ·Emergency and after-hours work usually carries a surcharge. List it as a separate line so it's transparent.
- ·Itemise parts. A client querying a $180 parts charge is far easier to handle when the mixer, hoses and seals are listed.
- ·For insurance or landlord jobs, the property address on the invoice matters. Include it as the job reference.
Plumber invoicing, answered.
What needs to be on a plumber's invoice in NZ?
Your business name and GST number (if registered), the client or property details, an invoice number and date, a description of the plumbing work with labour and parts separated, GST at 15% if registered, and payment details. Jobs of $1,000 or more also need the client's name and address.
How do I invoice an emergency callout?
List the standard callout fee plus an after-hours surcharge as separate lines, then your labour and parts. Being explicit about the surcharge up front avoids disputes when the bill arrives.
Do I charge GST on disposal fees?
If you're GST registered, GST applies across the whole invoice including disposal and travel. Use a single 15% GST line on the full total.
